Garrett entered the room with their fresh coffees and Angie set her cell phone down on the coffee table. âWas wondering if you got lost in there.â
âI was making sure it was perfect for you.â
âAw, thatâs sweet. I definitely donât expect perfection.â She took the warm mug from him and set it on the table beside her phone. âThough I one hundred percent appreciate your effort.â She smiled. âThank you.â
He took a seat on the other end of the couch, the same spot he was in before while they were talking. Her phone dinged three times, the text alerts coming in rapid-fire one after another. Clearly, someone was intent on reaching her. Garrett nodded toward the device. âHot date?â
âAbsolutely.â She raised her palm in the air and shrugged. âI mean, I donât know if youâve noticed, but thereâs a line of men around the corner. Iâm in high demand.â
âI have noticed, yes.â With a small smirk, he propped his ankle on his knee and took a sip of his coffee.
Angie was damn sure he hadnât noticed anything. Especially since guys were most definitely not banging down her door, but even if they were, they didnât stand a chance. She wasnât interested in anyone but the man before her.
Angie picked up the phone and read the messages. After sending a brief response, she set the device down on the end table. Picking up her mug, she refocused on Garrett and took a sip of her coffee. âIf you must know, it was Mark. Heâs heading out with friends, wanted to know what you and I were up to.â
âGot it.â
Angie tilted her head to the side, regarding him, once again trying to read his mood, his frame of mind. His expression was a little more open at the moment, more obvious. As in, he was draped in tension.
It clung to him like a wet blanket from the moment he came back from getting them fresh coffee. True, thereâd been some minor tension when they were discussing his ex-wife, but now it was flooding the room.
Angie crossed her legs. âI told him we were talking, having a quiet night in.â
âYou can go meet them if you want.â
âAre you saying you want to go meet them together?â
âNo. Not tonight. Iâm kind of tired, but you can go if you want.â He drank from his mug. âYou should go.â
Seriously?
She had only a few days left in Arizona. Yes, she loved her brother, but she wasnât going to give up the time with Garrett. Sheâd see her brother when he moved back home in the next couple of weeks.
Angie frowned as a bubble of hurt feelings filled her stomach, lodging a lump in her throat. âGarrett, no. Jesus, I donât want to go. Not unless you come with me. But honestly, even if you did, Iâd rather stay here and talk.â
âOkay, hon.â He raised his hands in the air like he was surrendering. âItâs fine.â
Angie frowned again. Why was she always so damn sensitive and trigger-happy
